Peter Clay’s U.S.S. Bakula rocket fins flutters and wave like flags as it enters and exits the speed of sound and was captured with an Aiptek DV4500 onboard video camera.

The video has been examined frame-by-frame by some experts and resulted as “not fake”.

The video has inspired many theories as to what was captured but these are the only known facts.

  • USS Bakula is PML Quantum Leap with some “enhancements” Peter added for extra strength
  • This flight used a AT K550 to a K185
  • The G10 fins are VISIBLY intact and feel solid (see the post flight exam) with only a minor fracture at the base on two opposing fins
  • The G10 fins were built with an extra “tip to tip” layer of 3oz fiberglass making their final (average) thickness 3/16″
  • The fins did flutter in some capacity
  • The anomaly occurred entering and exiting Mach
  • The footage is unaltered except for where altimeter data is added
  • The lower section of the sustainer rotates from it’s original orientation with the camera / upper sustainer.
  • The Sustainer recovered without incident

The fins in the picture are the ones “featured” in the video captured. Click the image below for the fin exam video (WMV small)

Deskloops is an interesting free Windows XP application that helps you organize your open application windows.

Looks a little bit like 3d desktop switcher on linux
To rotate pages, middle click+drag

Deskloops does this by arranging windows along a virtual horizontal loop. At any one time, you’ll see window open on screen as usual, but in fact any number of other windows, set on that loop, can be rotated in from left or right. A strip of thumbnails on top of the screen maps the loop’s full content.

Installing the Windows Vista sidebar on XP

The sidebar has been leaked and it works in XP. Here are the instructions how to download and install it.

  1. Download the Vista sidebar, and decompress it (it’s a RAR file).
  2. Copy the decompressed folder into the Program Files directory (C:\Program Files\).
  3. Now go to the Users folder, and under your username create a new folder named Parts (C:\Documents and Settings\x20 in my case), and copy the files from C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Parts into this folder.
  4. Download this patch and put it in the Windows Sidebar folder mentioned above, then run the file named Patch (and do as it says).
  5. Next up, download XMLRW.DLL and place it into the Windows Sidebar folder. This file is part of Internet Explorer 7, so if you have that beta, just get it from your own IE7 folder.
  6. Now just run the sidebar (C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe) and click the plus sign to load the widgets!

One of the best tricks to stop spam e-mail from reaching your inbox is by creating a disposable e-mail address. I’ve used a Hotmail account for spam for a long time, but recently, many services have popped up which serve exclusively to route spam to. Some of these services provide RSS feeds of e-mail, others let you forward e-mail to your real account. Some require registration, some don’t. See what works best for you.

  • DodgeIt- no registration required, provides RSS feeds, receive-only.
  • E4ward- requires registration, provides mail forwarding, allows multiple aliases of an account.
  • KasMail- requires registration, allows up to 25 aliases, can set aliases to expire after a certain amount of time.
  • Jetable- provides mail forwarding, account autoexpires after certain amount of time.
  • Mailinator- no registration required, provides handy spam map, receive-only, e-mail expires automatically after a few hours.
  • PookMail- no registration required, very simple to use.
  • SneakeMail- requires registration, provides mail forwarding.
  • SpamGourmet- requires registration, provides mail forwarding, can create custom aliases which automatically expire after a certain number of e-mails received.
  • Spam.la- no registration required, no frills. You can see all spam being sent to all Spam.la accounts, or just your own.

After twelve years of reserch and development, Guy Negre has developed an engine that could become one of the biggest technological advances of this century. Its application to CAT vehicles gives them significant economical and environmental advantages. With the incorporation of bi-energy (compressed air + fuel) the CAT Vehicles have increased their driving range to close to 2000 km with zero pollution in cities and considerably reduced pollution outside urban areas.

The Firefly solves that nagging battlefield problem of needing a quick look over the next hill, by deploying a disposable ballistic camera from a standard-issue, rifled-mounted grenade launcher. There’s no special training required; soldiers just fire off the grenade-sized reconaissance device and wait about 8 seconds for the photos to come back to a carried pocket computer.
